Elias Nikas had an energy that drew people to him. He had an infectious smile, a quick wit, and a gift for making those around him laugh. He brought light into a room and had a way of making ordinary moments memorable.
Hockey was at the center of Elias’s life. A gifted and fiercely competitive athlete, he loved the game, his teammates, and everything that came with being part of a team. The rink was where his determination, work ethic, loyalty, and love of competition came alive.
But Elias was so much more than a hockey player. He was a son, a brother, a friend, a teammate, and someone people remembered. He loved golf, being with his friends, and spending time with his family. In seventeen years, he built friendships and touched lives in ways he likely never fully understood.
The Elias Nikas Memorial Fund was created not simply to remember Elias, but to carry forward the energy, generosity, friendship, and sense of community that defined him.
Through the Fund, Elias’s family hopes to create opportunities for young people, support the hockey community and causes that reflect the things he cared about, and help other young athletes live full and healthy lives.
Following Elias’s death, his family learned that he had hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), a condition that can go undiagnosed in otherwise healthy young athletes. In Elias’s memory, part of the Fund’s mission will be to support greater awareness, screening, and early identification of HCM and other potentially life-threatening cardiac conditions in young athletes—with the hope that lives can be saved.
Elias’s story ended far too soon. The impact he had on others does not have to.
This Fund is meant to keep Elias’s spirit in motion—by helping young people, strengthening the communities he loved, and creating something meaningful in his name for years to come.
